Hi!

I'm Rajvardhan Jhanwar, a junior at Grinnell College—studying Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics and Global Development Studies. Being born in Kolkata, India, and raised in a joint family helped me to inculcate the values of teamwork and the importance of respecting the diverse ideas that other team members share with me. These threads of my family and upbringing have guided me in my life path and experiences so far.

In Grinnell, I'm actively involved on and off campus, as a Class Ambassador, Vice President of the South Asian Student Organization, associate for multiple Multicultural Leadership Councils, Vivero Scholar, Weekend Coordinator (Student Activities Board), and committee member of TEDx GrinnellCollege.

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Arts

Computer Science & Mathematics

August 2021 – December 2024

I am a junior at Grinnell College. As a freshman and sophomore, I won Grinnell's annual HackGC competition. I was chosen to be a part of Grinnell Singers (the college choir) and Pioneer Capital Investments. Its a student org that takes practical approach to teach students about investing, by allowing us to make $240,000 worth investments in the real world and prepare pitches in a team to trade stocks. Additionally, I actively take part in intramural sports like badminton, table tennis, racquetball, and cricket.

High School Diploma

Science Stream

April 2007 – June 2021

I graduated in the top 1% of my high school with 97.7% in the ISC examination as per its official best-of-four grading scheme. I was the Executive Board member of Jaco MUN'20, the signature event of my high school and one of the biggest inter-school Model UN's in India. Besides receiving the Certificate of Distinguished Performance in the ASSET exam, I achieved the AP Scholar with Honors award (As AP exams were not offered in my school, they had to be completed simultaneously with my high school academics ).

Summer Camp

Computer Science

May 2021 – July 2021

I attended the Summer Camp of University of Chicago on a scholarship that covered about 90% of the fees . While attending the Introduction to Computer Science I, an intensive contact course, I embraced the 15-25 hours of preparation time required outside of every class. Topics covered include trees, fractal graphics, compound and self-referential data structures, first order and higher-order functions, and some classic algorithms. I completed the course with an overall grade of 95%.

Fall Camp

Mathematics

September 2020 – December 2020

I received full scholarship to pursue the Multivariable Differential Calculus (XM521) course at Stanford Online High School (OHS). I opted to receive a Credit (Cr)/Non-Credit (NC) grade for this course, as it was the first time I was meeting people from all around the world, which led to challenges I had to overcome in understanding some of my classmates, as well as the hurdle of time differences. Despite being virtual, this camp was one of the most challenging and beneficial camp's I have attended.

LEADERSHIP & HONORS

Quotes that inspire me

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,– act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!
